Can I get a Medicare rebate for physiotherapy?

Yes! If your GP determines that you have a chronic medical condition—meaning it has been, or is likely to be, present for at least six months—you may be eligible for a Medicare rebate for physiotherapy through the new GP Chronic Condition Management Plan (GPCCMP).

This replaces the previous GP Management Plans (GPMPs) and Team Care Arrangements (TCAs) from 1 July 2025.

What do I need to do to qualify?

To access Medicare rebates:

  • Your GP must prepare a GPCCMP, which can be done in-person or via video.

  • Your GP must then provide a referral letter (not the old EPC form), addressed to M Physio.

A GPCCMP can be prepared once every 12 months and reviewed every 3 months if clinically appropriate.

Unlike the old system, your GP no longer needs to coordinate with multiple providers or seek our formal acceptance. However, we are still required to send a written report to your GP after your first treatment under the referral.

How many sessions are covered?

If you already have a GPMP or TCA in place from before 1 July 2025, don’t worry — these remain valid until 30 June 2027.

Referrals issued before 1 July 2025 can still be used until all five sessions are claimed, even if they’re on the old EPC forms.

Patients are eligible for up to 5 individual allied health sessions per calendar year (January–December). These sessions are shared across allied health services such as physiotherapy, podiatry, dietetics, and others.

New referrals from 1 July 2025 will be valid for 18 months, but the 5-session cap resets annually.

How much does the rebate cover, and what do I pay?

As of July 2025, the Medicare rebate for physiotherapy (MBS item 10960) is $61.80 per session, though this amount is subject to indexation. Check mbsonline.gov.au for the most up-to-date figure.

Please note: M Physio is not a bulk-billing clinic.
You’ll need to pay the full consultation fee upfront, and we will process the rebate on the spot via our Tyro terminal.

The rebate will be refunded directly to your debit card (linked to a savings or cheque account). Medicare rebates cannot be processed to credit cards.

How do I claim the rebate?

The process is quick and easy:

  1. Pay the full fee for your consult at M Physio.

  2. We process the Medicare rebate on the spot via our Tyro HealthPoint terminal.

  3. The rebate is deposited immediately to your debit card (must be linked to a savings or cheque account).

If we’re unable to process it in the clinic, you can claim manually through:

  • Your myGov Medicare account

  • The Medicare Express Plus app

  • Or in person at a Medicare office
