How long are the appointments?
The first consultation will take 50 minutes, during which your physiotherapist will perform a thorough assessment to understand your specific issue. Subsequent appointments will be 20 minutes in duration.
What should I expect?
- All our consultations are done 1-on-1 in private treatment rooms.
- You should expect your physiotherapist to provide a combination of hands-on manual therapy and exercise prescription.
- We have a pilates reformer at the clinic, which your physio may show you how to use if it is deemed likely to be a benefit for your condition.
- We do not use any electrophysical modalities (e.g. TENS, Ultrasound, Laser etc.) in our treatments. This is because there is limited evidence to support the use of these devices.
I have seen other physios before. How are you different from them?
The difference is our physiotherapists perform a very thorough full-body assessment the first time you come in. We look at 3 systems in the body in particular:
- Muscles
- Joints
- Nerves
Usually when there is pain or an injury to the body, it is due one or more of the above 3 systems. We often find the primary underlying cause of certain conditions can stem from a location away from the site of pain.
By completing a full body assessment, our physiotherapists will be able correctly diagnose your issue and develop an effective treatment plan.
Do I need a referral to see a physiotherapist?
No. Physiotherapists in Australia are first-contact practitioners, which means you do not need a referral to make a booking.
Do you treat WorkCover or Compulsory Third Party (CTP) patients?
Yes, we do. For you first appointment, please bring details of your referring doctor, case manager and medical certificate with you.
Can I claim a rebate from my private health insurance?
Yes, you are able to claim your rebate on the spot. Please check with your private health insurer whether your insurance covers you for Physiotherapy.
I have a Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plan [formerly Enhanced Primary Care or EPC] from my GP. How does this help?
Your GP must provide you with a CDM plan if you would like to receive a Medicare rebate. Your GP makes the clinical judgment as to whether they think you will benefit from a multidisciplinary team care approach.
If you already have a CDM plan in place, this means that your GP has planned and coordinated other healthcare providers (e.g. physiotherapists) to help assist your chronic condition (ongoing for more than 6 months). The CDM plan will entitle you to up to 5 Medicare rebates per calendar year.
We will process the full payment, and then provide you the rebate straight back into your bank account. If you have a CDM, please bring in the following to your appointment:
- Details of your GP
- Your CDM plan
- Your Medicare card
- Your bank card so the rebate can be processed directly into your bank account
What should I prepare/bring for my first consultation?
- Arrive 10 minutes before your first consultation to fill in your personal details and to complete a checklist which will help you and your physiotherapist better understand your condition and your goals for physiotherapy.
- Wear appropriate clothing, such as a shirt/singlet and shorts, to allow our physiotherapist to easily review the affected region of the body.
- If you have any existing x-rays, scans or medical reports, please bring these to your appointment, but don’t worry if you don’t have them.
- Please bring list of any medications you are taking for your condition.
- Have your doctor’s details with you.
